Day 53: the reward for getting fitter is working harder!

Good evening πŸ™‚

I awoke this morning, achy and with very heavy legs after all the running and circuits from yesterday! Throughout the day as I struggled to stay awake, and even abandoned my normal new rock boots in favour of doc marten shoes, I wondered if this boded badly for my up coming PT session this evening…

It didn’t…

I had considerably more energy than I expected πŸ˜€

It turned out to be an awesome personal training session. what made it even more awesome was it was at the gym closest to my work (pavilions in the park) which not only is convenient, but it is the gym in the group of gyms I attend that have the most “gymmy” attendees, by which I mean those most prone to stereotypical behavior, and it is always nice to do lots of really tough looking boxing in the middle of that to break down a few stereo types πŸ˜‰

Pavilions in the Park gym

After warming up on the cross trainer, during which I discovered that Matt the trainer, and Carly the circuits instructor have been talking about me (slightly disconcerting) we got straight on with the first Thai boxing section of the session. It was then I discovered that I had much more energy than I expected and was very enthusiastic. in reward to this enthusiasm and energy I was rewarded with faster combinations, more complicated kicking / punching combinations and a generally harder workrate πŸ™‚ This carried on, us dodging around the gym regulars, to their slight consternation and confusion until it was time for a break.

And by break I mean a chance to do some ViPR work, bodyweight exercises and some trx work!

This followed by lots more Thai boxing, punching, kicking lots of kicking, ever since last weeks kicking lesson when I remembered that I knew how to kick properly, I seemed to be kicking much better, it felt more natural. It was very fast, lots of defense lots of long combinations and only once or twice did Matt the trainer forget the combinations that he invented and end up getting kicked…not on purpose of course!

Last but not least core work, using a pulley machine and a handle that was slightly supposed to resemble a tennis racket…but in my world (at Matt’sΒ instigation I hasten to add) it became a virtual samurai sword and then lightsabre…I had to hold it out and then wave it around (in a controlled way) while it was attached to weights to strengthen my core somehow…I haven’t explained that well…but it felt like it was working πŸ˜€

What have I learned today…when you are asked by your trainer, “how does the weight feel” if you answer “quite light actually” you get given more weight! I suppose this is a good thing really πŸ™‚

Day 52 rather energetically complete. πŸ™‚

PS…Matt the trainer agrees with me about Zumba!

    1. there are so many tall skinny types in high ponytails who run for hours on the treadmill and muscle man wannabes who stare into space.
They need to know there are other types of people who also work out πŸ™‚
