Good morning ๐
It feels like this morning has been a very long one…but a very good one ๐
I had my first ever go at teaching someone how to box this morning! I am not trained in teaching people boxing (I am trained in teaching people chemistry but this is not helpful in this particular situation) but I have been doing it for nearly 14 years. The person I was teaching was my friend too, I am not trying to pass myself off as a boxing teacher or anything. I think it went pretty well ๐ We headed off to Horsham park and found a spot that wasn’t too in the open and not too overlooked by runners and dog walkers. We started off with a warm up, we did walking first then jogging on the spot then squats, jumping jacks and lunges then started the boxing.

I taught her basic jab and cross and we just worked on this for the session, making sure she got her technique right and then adding in some movement and ways to increase speed and power.
We worked on focus pads as I happen to have some and I had forgotten that it is as much of a work out (almost) holding the pads as it is hitting them ๐
It was a fairly basic start but I don’t want to get things wrong and break anyone! I did make sure we stretched off properly at the end (we spent more time on it than some classes I have been to!)
We spent an hour practicing different drills an stretches until Ruth had to go home. ย I still had an hour before I had to be at work and conveniently my gym is in the very same park! SO I headed into the gym for a fairly brief session.

I did a half version of my normal gym work out, it consisted of AMT warm up (although as I was completing it I realised I was already warm from the boxing but shhh) followed by ย interval bike sprints, which I hate but which seen to be excellent for fitness. I always feel slightly silly doing them when I am on my own (rather than with Matt the Trainer) as it seems such a short time to be there in comparison to the people on the treadmill for the long haul. I know we are after different things out of that work out and I do my long haul cardio out in the sunshine (or rain or cloud or snow or whatever) but they don’t know that…
I am aware I shouldn’t care what people think…
I am also aware they are probably not worrying about what I am doing…
anyway, once I had done that, I braved the glares of the (lots of) big men in the free weights area and got on with my sets of straight leg dead lifts, dumbell chest presses and one arm rows. I the went to the TRX and (yes voluntarily) repeated the squats / press-ups / row exercise set that I did with Matt on Tuesday. ย with stretching on top of that it was another 35 mins of exercise so just in time for shower and work ๐
Very productive morning and very well timed…the forecasted torrential downpour started just as I was entering the gym!
The odd thing about exercising before work, is by lunchtime you feel like you should be going again…I probably would do more this evening, if I didn’t have a wedding reception to go to!
Day 77 complete ๐
