Day 176: Stonehenge Dancing Awesomeness!

No, Stonehenge wasn’t dancing…that would have been “Dancing Stonehenge Awesomeness!” and it would have made the papers!

It was, of course, Mythago’s, much heralded and anticipated dance out at Stonehenge, actually…IN Stonehenge, inside the stones, in that bit the public rarely get to visit except by appointment…yes…that is right, we danced in there πŸ˜€

And it was awesome!!

you probably guessed that from the blog title…well shhh…it was worth repeating!

There we are all inside the stones and everything πŸ™‚ I am the one on the right, the one with the bronzy mask!

look there I am πŸ™‚

We did the Herne the Hunter story, I may have mentioned it in the past few weeks! It was all part of the Cotswold Order of Druids’ Midwinter Solstice celebration ritual.

Yes I know we were a week early, but it was the only time they could get the stones, next week all and sundry are allowed in the centre so we were early…I am sure it is fine πŸ™‚

It was a fascinating thing to be part of, I have a few friends who are Druids, but have never been involved in any rituals before so I had no idea what to expect! It was an amazing experience, and dancing there was fantastic!Β The atmosphere was amazing.Β

By far the oddest thing about the day was that Stonehenge was still open to the public, they weren’t allowed inside the stones themselves (only the awesome few were allowed to do that :-p) but they were still allowed into the normal tourist areas and on the paths! So you can onlu imagine the looks we got as we kitted up in the carpark, all met up and about 40 druids, some drummers and mythago all processed from the carpark into the site and then on around and finally into the stones! There must be tourists out there who think that is a normal part of the Stonehenge day! not one came and asked us what we were doing, but there were many many many of them taking photos of us at all times, including the bit where we were standing round drinking coffee before hand!

During the ceremony and during our dance, we weren’t allowed to take photos, but someone (not one of us) possibly a designated photographer for the druids, did. So here is a photo of us in the middle of the Avebury ring dance (for those that don’t know Avebury ring is another stone circle down the road…we were not there just to be clear) I am on the left of the photo πŸ™‚

After the ceremony / ritual was over we got a chance to take our photos, and, our musicians being our musicians they started playing, and us being us we started to dance to what they were playing…which happened to be triskelle. So the bit where we all got to do our own thing, soon became the bit where everyone else stood round and watched while we did our own thing…our own thing being an impromptu performance of triskelle πŸ˜€

Did I mention it was awesome!

It was awesome!!

ANd not as much exercise as you might think…I actually only did 2 dances and a lot of standing and a little walking…so…when I got home, I hightailed it down to the gym! and this is what I did:

1 round of my new trx based program (details) and
5 x 5 reps of bench press at 32.5 kg (woohoo PB)
5 x 5 reps of bent over rows at 35 kg (woohoo PB)
2 x 5 reps of deadlifts at 35kg (woohoo PB)

and then the gym closed, so I went home πŸ™‚

and with that…

Day 176 most awesomely complete πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  1. Sam I am so, so happy for you. This sounds like the experience of a lifetime! And given that being ‘fit enough to dance in a mask’ was the original motivation for your 365 challenge, this makes it extra special!

Congrats too on your PBs at the gym. No doubt fuelled by your positive energy following the day’s events. Well done!

    I’m so proud of you!

    1. Thank you πŸ™‚ it really was!
And yes doing this at (1 week off) the midpoint of the project is an excellent marker πŸ™‚
I am still excited! And the PBs were definitely excitement fuelled! πŸ™‚

To top it all off I have just signed up to do a personal trainer course πŸ˜€ but that will be a whole other blog post πŸ˜€ xxxx
