2021: Welcome to the future!

We are officially living in the future… bear with me, it makes sense I promise.

Well sense for me anyway…

So I was looking at films/books that are set in 2020/2021 and many of the things were somewhat dystopian, Children of Men by PD James was set in 2021 (future with no more fertility and noone being born, split society, different rules for different areas of the country) for a start. But possibly the most notable thing I found was Blade Runner (the original film) and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick (the book Blade Runner was based on) were set around about now. The film was set in 2019, and the book (in later editions) was set in 2021. Blade Runner is absolutely considered futuristic, consequently we must be living in the future.

I’m not in Los Angeles but shhh!

So why am I telling you all of this?

Well, what with global pandemics, lockdowns, different rules for different areas of the country, abrupt and unnecessary break-ups with the EU, not to mention, fires floods, human rights violations and US presidential nonsense, 2020 felt somewhat dystopian and I have a suspicion that 2021 is not going to feel any less so. Not for the first part at least!

So, considering dystopian reality, the new year, my love of writing things down and filling in little boxes, I felt the need to attempt to plan everything. The world feels out of control and I decided to attempt to combat it with the revival of my bullet journal with a vengeance!

Can you bullet journal with a vengeance?

Well, I am going to try!

I have set myself some goals, mostly along the lines of developing things and habits I already have, I am not a new years resolutions sort of person, as I have mentioned before…

2021 Goals

  • Compete in the West Sussex Strongest Strongwoman competition (1st – 2nd May 2021)
  • Compete in the Sussex Strength’s Strongest Strongwoman competition (26th – 27th June 2021)
  • Learn to play the recorder well
    • Soprano/tenor improve
    • Alto learn
  • Build Catchpole Creative Photography engagement
  • Finish the Otter Chronicles
  • Read 1 poem per day
  • Get stronger

So that is my broad plan for 2021, admittedly I had forgotten completely that I was going to read a poem every day, so that one is already behind, the rest are fine though.

I am sure I can catch up with the poems, if I put my mind to it!

January Goals

  • 30 Days of Yoga, Yoga with Adriene: Breath
  • 21 day Steel Mace Challenge
  • Janathon: exercise and blog every day during January
  • Restart shed-gym lifting programme, 5 x per week
  • Write two Otter Chronicle installments
  • Write 1 Catchpole Creative blog post per week
  • Build step goal back to 7000+ steps per day

January goals are not to dissimilar to the goals I set every January, I realised recently that this is my 6th Janathon and possibly my 5th or 6th YWA January 30 day challenge! The gym goal is just a case of getting back to what I was doing before the christmas break and the preceding hectic work schedule. It is not a new habit, it is a thing I love and will feed into the strongwoman goal 😀

I think that the main difference between these

In an attempt to stay on track and productive (I know excessive pressure to be productive is a tool of capitalism and rest is also important…) I have made myself pages of little boxes to fill in!

I’ve filled in more boxes than that now, but I took the pictures a day or so ago 😀 also please ignore the fact that I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler on a page that has dots on it so I can line things up…

So that’s it for now, that’s my plan… it is similar really to what I have been doing for a little while, I just needed to organise it and capture it in book form before it got away from me!

  1. I love your planner with a vengeance. And I felt very rewarded with the amount of boxes and pretty things on pages that I saw in this single blog.

I too agree that this year is going to be a bit rough. I was never ‘on board’ with the whole “what a year 2020 is!” because I just couldn’t see the pandemic finishing on the stroke of midnight on December 31st 2020.

And, very importantly, what is this 21 day steel mace challenge that is mentioned in your journal? I’m going to guess that it has something to do with an upper body movement, perhaps with something like a Kettlebell?
But, I’m also thinking that perhaps you’re steeling your resolve to mace irritating people every day for 21 days?
Or, perhaps you intend to infiltrate the beefeaters and steal the ceremonial mace from the Houses of Parliament. The 21 days being the length of time required to achieve the theft. Although what this would accomplish is beyond my ken.
(If you’ve already described the challenge in detail – please forgive me, I obviously wasn’t listening.)

    1. I think this year is definitely going to be difficult, but at least there is a vaccine so I am holding on to that hope!

The little boxes and prettiness cheer me up 🙂 and filling in little boxes if more fun that it really should be 😁 I am glad you like them too!

The steel mace challenge is one which I should have started but haven’t…
It involves my new (ish) steel Mace bell which is basically a ball in the end of a long stick. The challenge is to whirl it around a set number of times each day… it is good for shoulders and core and fitness…
there is a kettlebell component too 🙂
It is a brilliant thing with which to mace irritating people so that may also be a factor!
I do like the sound of the Houses of Parliament mace too…maybe I should put more thought into that. It might take me more than 21 days to figure it out though. I have never planned a heist before!
